Dear Friends in Stiens,
In this special time of the year, it's tempting to just think of the rush and hurry before Christmas. But it is Advent! What is Advent really? Advent symbolizes the present situation of the church in these “last days” as God’s people wait for the return of Christ in glory to consummate his eternal kingdom. The church is in a similar situation to Israel at the end of the Old Testament: in exile, waiting and hoping in prayerful expectation for the coming of the Messiah. Israel looked back to God’s past gracious actions on their behalf in leading them out of Egypt in the Exodus, and on this basis, they called for God once again to act for them. In the same way, the church, during Advent, looks back upon Christ’s coming in celebration while at the same time looking forward in eager anticipation to the coming of Christ’s kingdom when he returns for his people. In this light, the Advent hymn “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” perfectly represents the church’s cry during the Advent season:

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appears.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel

With these words, I wish you and all our Friends in Stiens a blessed Advent, Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Op zaterdag 21 december is er weer een kerststal te bewonderen in de St.Vituskerk te Stiens. De kerk is geopend van 13.30-16.30 uur. De kerststal is inclusief herders, schapen en Jozef en Maria. Elk halfuur is er andere live kerstmuziek en u kunt er ook een lekker kopje chocolademelk krijgen. Tot ziens!
Het muziekrooster is als volgt:

1330-1415 orgel met H.Havenga;
1415-1445 Jeugdorkest Band4Uth;
1445-1515 zang met VituStins cantorij;
1515-1545 Blokfluitgroep;
1545-1615 Fanfare Studio.

U I T N O D I G I N G - Bèta-avonden
Thema: Paulus
13 en 27 februari 2020 in De Hege Stins te Stiens
Wij nodigen u, als commissie Vorming & Toerusting, graag uit om twee Bèta-avonden bij te wonen. Deze avonden gaan we de verdieping zoeken in de persoon van apostel Paulus, zijn brieven, zendingsreizen, zijn leven als Farizeeër en zijn bekering tot het Christendom.

De avonden beginnen om 20.00 uur tot ca. 22.00 uur en zullen door Ds. H. Strubbe worden verzorgd. U kunt gerust een vriend/vriendin/kennis meenemen. Iedereen is van harte welkom!
